Carpenter's Tools - The DaVinci Code . . . . .

by Pastor Wallace Phillips

“Have you heard about the DaVinci Code?” “Pastor, what do you think about the DaVinci Code?” “Pastor, would you please tell me what all this means in this movie the DaVinci Code?” Well, I’ve had those questions and more presented to me over and over again. I take a unique position concerning the DaVinci Code. Here it is –

1) I’m not interested in DaVinci’s twist on the life of Jesus. His supposed “hidden codes” in pictures that he painted are not “inspired” by God.

2) The only “codes” that are needed today are already given. Put simply, they are The Old Testament and The New Testament. These two covenants combined are the only rule of faith and practice needed today. They are the true details given by God on the life of Jesus.

Scripture tells us as believers that there would be those in the last days who would turn away from the truth and believe a lie. Be careful! II Timothy 4:3,4

I would rather spend my time and my treasure investing in the truth. But if you like, there’s the movie, then the gameboard, and I’m quite sure you can get the toy at McDonalds or Burger King. As for me, I’ll stick with the truth of Scripture and invest in a sure thing.

Have a good week….even if you’re trying to crack the codes.

Carpenter's Tools - In the course of time . . . . .

By Pastor Wallace Phillips

Isn’t it amazing that American society has forced us to demand everything be available and in our hands at the speed of light. Think about it. Do you remember when we moved to microwaves? Remember one hour photos? Digital cameras with printing stations? We have the expectation that everything should be right here…right now. We even feel that way about God’s provision and direction in our lives.

I preached recently on the life of David and how God moved him from Shepherd boy….to Warrior…to King of Israel. It didn’t happen overnight. The plan of God unfolded in his life. It was progressive, not instant. As a matter of fact, if you look at II Samuel 2:1 ff. you will find that the Scriptures declare…”In the course of time…”. Saul was dead. The man who chased David causing him to flee for his life in the caves of En Gedi. After his death, David is anointed King over the southern portion of Israel. He didn’t rule it all until later. In the next chapter, the final anointing of David is introduced as he rules the nation looking forward to a time of peace when “all” their enemies were silenced.

What is God doing in your life? “In the course of time…” He will bring it about. Don’t be so “ansy” as we say in the South. Shepherd…warrior….King was the order. Not…King! Allow God to work in your life “in the course of time. Sit down today and read II Samuel, Chapters 1 – 3.

Proposed Rule Changes Would Tangle The Web

By Michael Socolow - May 9, 2006 - The Baltimore Sun

Congress wants to change the Internet.

This is news to most people because the major news media have not actively pursued the story. Yet both the House and Senate commerce committees are promoting new rules governing the manner by which most Americans receive the Web. Congressional passage of new rules is widely anticipated, as is President Bush's signature. Once this happens, the Internet will change before your eyes.

Call your representative and protest this change. Call Richard Burr and Elizabeth Dole and protest this change. Call now! This is quite possibly the most dangerous law that has been proposed by congress this year. As usual, because it is popular with BIG corporations, major elements from both parties endorse it. However your ability to receive the same content from the World Wide Web will be taken away if this becomes the law of the land. There will be a big brother in the network hubs of the Giant Communication Corporations who will sell access to your computer, and you get no part of the revenue or any say in who they sell it to.
