Carpenter's Tools - In the course of time . . . . .

By Pastor Wallace Phillips

Isn’t it amazing that American society has forced us to demand everything be available and in our hands at the speed of light. Think about it. Do you remember when we moved to microwaves? Remember one hour photos? Digital cameras with printing stations? We have the expectation that everything should be right here…right now. We even feel that way about God’s provision and direction in our lives.

I preached recently on the life of David and how God moved him from Shepherd boy….to Warrior…to King of Israel. It didn’t happen overnight. The plan of God unfolded in his life. It was progressive, not instant. As a matter of fact, if you look at II Samuel 2:1 ff. you will find that the Scriptures declare…”In the course of time…”. Saul was dead. The man who chased David causing him to flee for his life in the caves of En Gedi. After his death, David is anointed King over the southern portion of Israel. He didn’t rule it all until later. In the next chapter, the final anointing of David is introduced as he rules the nation looking forward to a time of peace when “all” their enemies were silenced.

What is God doing in your life? “In the course of time…” He will bring it about. Don’t be so “ansy” as we say in the South. Shepherd…warrior….King was the order. Not…King! Allow God to work in your life “in the course of time. Sit down today and read II Samuel, Chapters 1 – 3.
