Hospice Honors Volunteers

At this years luncheon to honor volunteers, one of the biggest announcements was the change in name. It is now University Home Health Care and Hospice. The work they do is being extended into taking care of people who are at serious risk, but is no longer only limited to those who are dying. With the new name and new charter, they still do great work and volunteers make the difference. The organization honored the tremendous service of the more than 150 volunteers who help them with their loving support to families in our community.

Volunteers

It is tough to lose a loved one suddenly, but it is more traumatic dealing with death that is imminent, or even the threat of death. The goal of Hospice is to show there are options to help live with dignity and as free of pain as possible. Helping the ill or dying and their families and making their lives brighter takes the most incredible love and dedication.

More Volunteers

Volunteers were honored at the luncheon, including Bob Fringer as the 2005 Governor's Award Winners for Outstanding Volunteer Service from Bertie County. Tra Perry, Director of Volunteers for Hospice was the master of cermonies for the awards.

Norma Lassiter Is Honored

Jerri Peede Is Honored

Betty Francis Of Murfreesboro Receiving Her 15 Year Volunteer Service Award

One of the other purposes of the luncheon was to give special recognition to the many businesses, organizations, local groups and churches who provide outstanding support to this worthy organization in a variety of ways.

There was a special Remembrance of Nina Mizelle for her dedicated service, with her family releasing balloons in her memory.

Carpenter's Tools - I’m lovin’ it!. . . . .

By Pastor Wallace Phillips

Travel with me to the drive-thru at McDonalds – You know, you get in the traffic line and approach that little speaker on a pole and hear the distorted message of someone who says, “GoodmorningwelcometoMcDonaldscanItakeyourorderplease?” Sometimes it sounds like the longest word you’ve ever heard in another language disguised as a question about what you want to order. You assume the question and make your selection. Driving to the window to pay and receive you’re just hoping that you’re on the right track.

This morning I made my way through to grab my son a biscuit on the last day of school before Easter break (we eat breakfast at home usually). As I journey to Ronald’s house I scurried through the drive and on to the pick-up window. A dear lady passes the bag through the window, I pay, and she smiles and says, “Have a wonderful mornin’!” I thought….”This lady got up early, she works at a fast food restaurant, I don’t know what she’s facing in life, she has to meet the public all day long, and she says, ‘Have a wonderful mornin’’ with a big smile. I’m lovin’ it! It doesn’t take much to make you happy. Smile and someone….they will usually smile back. Go ahead, try it. You’ll feel better. They’ll feel better, God’ll love it!

Heaven’s Gates Attracts Hundreds

Over 450 make decisions for Christ

April 2nd, 2006

Crowds gathered at 5:00 PM each evening. Hundreds made their way to the eighth season of the area’s most sought-after drama – Heaven’s Gates and Hell’s Flames. Blue lights flashed each evening as traffic moved to 903 South Catherine Creek Road to get in line for the Reality Outreach Ministry production hosted by Carpenter’s Shop Church and Murfreesboro Assembly of God.

“It’s just a God-thing!” says Wallace Phillips, Senior Pastor of the host church. “You can’t humanly produce the kind of results we see each season of Heaven’s Gates and Hell’s Flames” he added. Over 450 individuals moved to the altars of repentance from Sunday to Tuesday evening. People were broken in spirit as they made their way to receive Christ after a ninety minute encounter with real-life situation skits performed by members of the two churches.

Gary Felton as "Jesus"

Each scene begins with normal life activity – work, travel, sports, social life, and the natural aging process. Each scene ends with the destiny that we all face – death. Once deceased, individuals are faced with the ultimate question – “Is my name in the Book?” The Book of Life holds the names of all who have given their lives to Jesus Christ. The Head Angel (Debra Morris) slowly moved her finger across the page to pronounce the eternal destiny of every inquirer. If their name was found in the Book, Christ (Gary Felton) appears to welcome the soul to eternity with Him. If their name was not found, Satan (Rich Burkett) quickly emerged from a technological hell to welcome his victims to eternity without God.

Richard Burkett as "Satan"

“It’s just one of the methods of reaching people that we continue to find success in,” said Phillips. Night after night people gathered to experience Heaven’s Gates and Hell’s Flames in the comfort of one of the areas most progressive ministries. Carpenter’s Shop Church and Murfreesboro Assembly of God are both affiliates of the General Council of the Assemblies of God in Springfield, Missouri.
