3 Popular Vitamins 'Useless'

by AP Staff - February 28th, 2007 - New York Post

A, E and C were too good to B true.

The vitamins - wildly popular for their antioxidant qualities and believed to help beat back everything from heart disease to cancer - actually do nothing to lengthen one's life, according to a startling analysis of dozens of studies.

What is worse is at the end of the article. ". . . . they actually found a higher risk of death for people taking vitamins: 4 percent for those taking vitamin E, 7 percent for beta carotene and 16 percent for vitamin A."

Now this is news more people need to hear. For a long time I have expressed the opinion that people need to worry when they try to overwhelm their digestive system with diets and medicines based on the premise that you can force good health by these techiques. It doesn't work. The human body is pretty good at taking what it needs from a balanced diet. Exercise is the one thing that we need . . . . and that we try to avoid. It is the one thing that will make the biggest difference.

Eat a balanced diet and do some light exercise.

A liberal is very tolerant and accepts as moral anything that a person does just as long as the government makes it compulsory.

Carpenter’s Tools - All Dressed Up and . . . .

By Pastor Wallace Phillips – February 24th, 2007

You’ve heard it I’m quite sure - “All dressed up and no place to go”. That’s the title I’m using for my second book, scheduled to be available in the Spring of 2007. It chronicles some headline stories of actual things that are keeping people from the house of the Lord today. Racial prejudice, socio-economic pressure, and even health issues keep people from an active and vibrant experience of corporate worship. They’re dressed in spirit, but lack the openness of the local church to be fulfilled in that awesome corporate design that God’s stamp of approval is upon. He said, “Forsake not the assembling of yourselves together…” in the Book of Hebrews.

Some are not welcome in the local gathering because of race. Some are not welcome in the worship setting because they don’t rate with the rest in the house in terms of finance. Others cannot find a place of worship that will minister to God’s special people who find themselves mentally challenged. They are dressed and ready to go, but can they find an open place of worship where their needs are met?

I’m concerned about the church at large today. She’s not the open institution that God wants her to be. We are open……. with conditions. Many churches snub their nose at folk because they are of another race. Many are turned away because they don’t meet the criteria of dress or presentation. Many would love to enter the church, but know the church cannot handle their physical or emotional condition.

All dressed up and no place to go…..it’s a book…..coming your way…..in Spring ’07.

Thoughts On The Last
Indispensable Nation On Earth

by James Lileks - Februaru 20th, 2007 - Newhouse News Service

An asteroid is heading for Earth. A big one. It's called "Apophis," which might be Greek for "uh oh,", and it will come "uncomfortably close" to Earth on April 13, 2036. (It's a Sunday.)

The odds are 1 in 45,000 that the rock will strike the planet, throwing up sufficient dust to cause a massive drop in temperatures, thereby curing global warming. Hmm: Perhaps "Apophis" is Greek for "repairman," and the technical term for this celestial event is "service call."

James has really gone all out on making this one funny. His satire about the concept of the UN doing anything seriously to protect us from this type of disaster is unfortunately just a little too close to the truth to be completely funny, but it is pretty good.

Carpenter’s Tools - Hurry Up and Wait! . . . . .

By Pastor Wallace Phillips - February 16th, 2007

Oh the fast paced world we live in! Everything’s in high gear. We expect everything to be done so quickly. We want 10-minute oil changes, microwave popcorn, pictures printed out immediately, and the list goes on. I think we have the same mentality with the things of God. We want what we want to happen “right now” Lord! And it doesn’t always happen that way. We have lost the art of waiting on the Lord for HIS will to be done in HIS time. We must learn the virtue of waiting.

Isaiah reminds us that “they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength…they shall mount up with wings as eagles…they shall run and not grow weary…they shall walk and not faint.” We need to remember to wait upon the Lord. In our waiting we HEAR His voice. In our waiting we FIND His strength. In our waiting we TAKE FLIGHT with His wings. In our waiting we RUN in His strength. In our waiting we WALK without fatigue. We need to let “patience have her perfect work in our lives” and learn to hurry up and wait.

Have an awesome week in His timing.

Inner Banks Laughter - Valentine Humor

A man personally mailed out 1,000 Valentine cards with hearts and perfume on them. When the lady at the post office expressed surprise that he knew that many women, he said "Oh these are going to men and they are all signed Guess who?" Puzzled she asked why. "I am a lawyer and most of these will be opened by their wives".

Inner Banks Laughter - Blond Humor

Did you hear about the blonde who got locked in the bathroom?

She said she waited so long to get let out she couldn't hold it any longer and wet her pants.

Wait, wait, don't go yet, here's another one!

Why did the blonde bake a chicken for 3-1/2 days?

It said cook it for half an hour per pound, and she weighed 125 lbs.

Carpenter’s Tools - First! . . . . .

By Pastor Wallace Phillips – February 8th, 2007

There is a classic verse that we have all heard in the Scriptures – “But seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you as well.” Jesus is speaking here and calling us to a life of “kingdom first” principles. Put quite frankly, He is to be first in everything about us and the lives that we live.

He reminds us in this passage of Matthew 6 that the pagans run after all “these things” – concern about what they shall eat, drink, or where they will live. He calls us to a life of seeking Him above even the essentials of living. He reminds us that He is aware of our needs as He is of the sparrow’s.

Putting Jesus first doesn’t mean that we have to spend every waking hour praying, witnessing, or reading the Word. It means that we seek His guidance and direction in all that we do in our lives. If He is first, then the cares of this life (eat, drink, clothing, and shelter) will be added unto us.

If we put Him first, then we can enjoy the establishment of building some things for ourselves, investing funds to make certain of our future, and enjoying some wonderful pastimes. But He calls for first place. Let’s put Him first and watch all the things that we worry about come to us from His wonderful hand.

Serve the Lord with gladness and have an awesome week.

Ridgecroft Students Learn
True Meaning Of American Flag

by Cal Bryant - February 7th, 2007 - Ronaoke-Chowan News-Herald

AHOSKIE - We see them everywhere….flying proudly in the breeze from stainless steel poles, standing still on a speaker’s podium and draped across buildings.

The flag of the United States of America is a part of our proud heritage, a simple piece of red, white and blue cloth emblazoned with 50 stars.

But as much as we take this American symbol for granted, there is one group of youngsters at Ridgecroft School who have figured out the connection between this colorful material and the sacrifices made to fly it over the land of the free and the home of the brave.

On Tuesday, Ridgecroft’s first-grade class was presented with an American Flag which flew on Jan. 1 over Forward Operating Base Shield in Baghdad, Iraq. The gift came from the 550-member international military and civilian force stationed in that war-torn country.

It is encouraging to see that many of our children are learning some of the important lessons of our nation, and what it takes to remain free. My thanks to Denise White, Charlotte Riddick and headmaster Elton Winslow.

Elton Winslow, Helen Early, Daniel Lane And Denise White

“We are proud of our first-graders, along with the entire family here at Ridgecroft School, who have shown they are proud to salute the men and women who have put themselves in harm’s way in order to protect the freedoms we enjoy each and every day,” Ridgecroft Headmaster Elton Winslow said.

They have a right to be proud.

Happy Birthday President Ronald Reagan

Why do we love Ronald Reagan? Quotes like "How do you tell a communist? Well, it’s someone who reads Marx and Lenin. And how do you tell an anti-communist? It’s someone who understands Marx and Lenin."

There are so many things that were good about Ronald Reagan that it is hard to single out his greatest contribution to America. However as much as he is loved for other things, his defeat of communism in the Soviet Union was the top.

PETA Workers Cleared Of Major Charges

by Cal Bryant - February 2nd, 2007 - Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald

WINTON - “Justice was served.”

With that said, Adria Hinkle left the Hertford County Superior Courtroom here yesterday (Friday) as a woman vindicated of all but one of the charges against her.

After deliberating for three and one-half hours, a Hertford County jury delivered a unanimous not guilty verdict against both Hinkle and her former PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) co-worker, Andrew Cook.

Friday’s verdict, which came-in at 6:11 p.m., ended the longest courtroom trial in Hertford County history, one that drew major attention from local, regional and national media.

Following motions heard late Thursday afternoon, the charges against Hinkle and Cook were changed from felony to misdemeanor animal cruelty (eight counts each). Hinkle also stood charged with three felony counts of obtaining property by false pretense (a similar charge against Cook was dismissed prior to the jury deliberation).

The verdict was not guilty on the misdemeanor animal cruelty charges (against both) and Hinkle’s false pretense charges.

Each defendant was found guilty of one misdemeanor count of littering. On that charge, Superior Court Judge Cy Grant sentenced each to 10 days in the Hertford County Jail, suspended upon 12 months of supervised probation.

What a farce. Sandy Burger was whitewashed of crimes that would have sent most Americans to jail for the rest of their lives. However Sandy Burger is an active and passionate supporter of socialism, and thus the liberal judges and liberal justice department made sure he got off with a slap on the wrist. Come to Hertford County and the same liberal coalition is still at work subverting justice.

PETA is a radical extremist group of socialists using the pretense of being an animal rights group to solicit contributions from gullible members of the public. The head of PETA is a woman who hates mankind.

PETA's President, Ingrid Newkirk, says the following, "Mankind is the biggest blight on the face of the earth." Newkirk explained why she had herself sterilized: "I am opposed to having children. Having a purebred human baby is like having a purebred dog; it's nothing but vanity, human vanity." Shame on all you Inner Banks citizens for daring to defile her earth by having human children. And just as bad is having dogs and cats for pets. Only wild animals are tolerated in the world of PETA.

Here are a couple of earlier articles that will give you some idea of what the group truly stands for.

Outrage on the green

Peta hates people

There is little chance that you will ever get justice in an American court. This trial was a farce and these socialists got a slap on the wrist because they are socialists. This compliant jury made sure that, for socialists in Hertford County, euthanizing animals for profit by PETA is called "littering".

If you think they did not do what they were charged with, read some of Adria Hinkle's testimony in this article here. Then tell me how this jury found them not guilty.

Simply incredible. Revolving doors for evil criminals and lets make a deal hypocrisy are standard. Our court system is permiated with political bias and is completely corrupt.

Carpenter’s Tools - Eternal Tickets . . . . .

By Pastor Wallace Phillips - February 1st, 2007

A lady in Phoenix, Arizona, has racked up 70 speeding tickets in the last five months. According to a Scottsdale police spokesman, Mark Clark, the driver did not pay any of them but instead just threw the tickets away. She told arresting officers she was speeding because she seemed to be late for client meetings all the time. Clark summarized, “I guess she’s got some time management issues.”

She has worse issues than that. When asked why she had not paid any of the 70 tickets, the woman replied she thought nothing could happen to her if she didn’t pay them. She faces $11,000 in fines alone, and maybe some prison time. AOL news polled 33,000 subscribers on the story, and 95% of them thought the woman should lose her license.

How can any rational person think he or she could get away with failure to pay speeding tickets? They are all noted on the police books. They are not just going to vanish. But that makes me think, how can any sane person believe he or she can neglect so great salvation without paying the ultimate price for it? The Bible clearly states that all people everywhere are commanded by God to repent, and asks “how shall we escape if we neglect so great salvation?” The Creator warns that His Spirit will not always strive with mankind. Yet, like that Arizona lady, most folks just ignore all the warnings - thinking somehow that no accounting before the Throne will ever be necessary.

I imagine it is wake-up time for that Arizona driver. And one day it will be eternal wake-up for lots of folks who threw their eternal tickets away.

Inner Banks Laughter - Medical Humor

I am a medical student currently doing a rotation in toxicology at the poison control center. Today, this woman called in very upset because she caught her little daughter eating ants.

I quickly reassured her that the ants are not harmful and there would be no need to bring her daughter into the hospital. She calmed down and at the end of the conversation happened to mention that she gave her daughter some ant poison to eat in order to kill the ants.

I told her that she better bring her daughter into the emergency room right away.
