Local Team Wins World Series

They come from all walks of life.

Russell Allen is program director at Ahoskie’s ViQuest Center; Tony White is a self-employed carpenter; David Oliver works at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital; Joseph Johnson is employed by Edenton-Chowan County Schools; Millard Lewis works for the Town of Windsor; Darren Cottle’s career is with Perdue; Ryan Ellis is a student at Roanoke-Chowan Community College; Braxton Jernigan is a state employee and Josh Roberts works with Pleasant Grove Gardens and Landscaping.

So, what do these men with different backgrounds have in common? They are all world champions.

In addition to the individual awards received by Allen and Roberts, seven other Last Call players were recognized for their outstanding achievements. Johnson, who plays second base, was the tournament’s Defensive MVP while White (pitcher), Lewis (leftfield), Cottle (first base) and Jernigan (shortstop) were named to the All-World Team. Joining them were Last Call All-World performers Mike Whitig (catcher) and Jeff Smith (third base), both of Tarboro.

Other team members include Tim Smith of Tarboro, Bob Wall of Bethel, Eli Roberson of Washington and Doug Warren of Williamston.

Congratulations to a bunch of guys who deserve all the accolades they can get!

World Champions. It can't get any better than this.
